What are Cane Beads?
They are actually furnace glass beads made
using Italian glass working techniques. They get their Furnace name
from the fact that they require a large glass furnace and an
annealing kiln to make.
They get their Cane name because they
are made using several colored canes of glass that are fused
together on a mandrel. The resulting long fused glass piece is then
cut into various shapes and sizes.
Cane beads can be cylindrical, square,
rectangular, fluted, triangular and heart shaped. The
resulting beads have what look like vertical stripes because of the
many different colored canes fused together.
How are Cane Beads Sold?
Unlike other beads shown on this site, cane
beads are not sold through this catalog by the piece. If you
come in to the shop, you may buy them that way. Through this
catalog, they are only sold in collections of a particular number of
beads in a particular color or a mix of colors. There are some
exceptions. We do sell our specialty shaped cane beads by the
piece or the matched pair.
Please take a moment to view the pictures
below. We have grouped them by color family. You may
choose to buy as small a number as ten beads or as large as fifty.
With each increase in number of beads, the price per bead falls a
little. So. . .the more you buy, the cheaper they are.
If you are ordering our specialty shaped
beads, those will be pictured below in groups from which you may
pick a single bead, a matched pair or a group of beads. As
with the generic cane beads grouped only by color, there are price
breaks for quantity purchases. Those breaks are as follows: |
